New Member Resources

This page is primarily for use by new club members to familiarize themselves quickly with important technical and social details of club operations. We want our new members to feel at home quickly and to begin using our club resources as soon as possible. WELCOME TO THE TAIMIAMI ARC!

ELMER DIRECTORY: this is a list of club members having expertise in several different technical aspects of amateur radio equipment, modes, and operations. Just send your questions for Elmer help to askelmer@tamiamiarc.org. A club Ambassador will match your question to a knowledgeable club member and someone will respond with an answer of will get in touch with you directly to further discuss your question.

Groups.io club email message service. This is a members only service that we use to communicate among club members. This is the only direct way we have of communicating between the club leadership and our members and for members to communicate directly with each other. ALL club members are strongly urged to subscribe to this service. Just send an email with the subject of “SUBSCRIBE” to main+subscribe@TARC-VeniceFL.groups.io

GREAT WEBSITE and MONTHLY NEWSLETTER. Visit us at https://tamiamiarc.org/. The monthly newsletter, The Communicator is emailed on the 1st or each month to all club members. You may also find links to the current and all past issues of The Communicator on the home page of our website anytime.

MONTHLY CLUB MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS: The club membership meets monthly (except for July and August) to discuss upcoming events and activities and to exchange greetings and information among members. Each meeting is followed by a 30-40 minute presentation of a topic of interest to the club and its members. Meetings typically last less than 1 hour. We meet at 6:30 pm on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Venice Presbyterian Church on the island in Venice.

REGUALR SOCIAL GATHERINGS: Club members meet socially for breakfast two days each week, once a month for the QCWA (see below), and weekly for an online video chat to exchange greetings and amateur radio related information. These are all great opportunities to meet club members and to get any questions you may have about the club or ham radio answered.

  • Tuesdays, 6 am at Peach’s Restaurant in Venice. Social hour from 6 to 7 am Breakfast orders are placed with the servers at 7 am.
  • Fridays, 9 am at Perkins Restaurant in Venice. Most arrive between 8:30 and 9 am. Orders are placed with the server at 9 am.
  • Wednesdays, 11 am via Google Meet for the Wednesday Brunch Bunch online video chat.
  • First Monday of each month (October-June) at Perkins in Venice at 11 am for the Quarter Century Wireless Association local chapter meetings. All are welcome to attend. There is usually an informative and ham related presentation given during the lunch.

REPEATERS AND WEEKLY CHAT NETS. The club maintains and operates a 2 meter FM repeater and a 70 centimeter DMR repeater for amateur radio use. The Sarasota Amateur Radio Club maintains a county-wide network of repeaters, linked repeater systems, and WinLink, VARA-FM and VARA-HF gateways.
