Volunteer Examiner Sessions

VE Session 1 The Tamiami Amateur Radio Club holds VE sessions the second Saturday of every month, starting at 10:00 AM in the Computer Lab room of the Jacaranda Public Library, 4143 Woodmere Park Blvd, Venice. Walk-ins are allowed. Applicants for their first license must bring photo identification and their Social Security card. Applicants for upgrades must bring photo ID, both the original and a copy of their current license, and the original CSCE if they have upgraded from the class shown on their license.

VEC PatchIf their FCC Registration Number is not shown on their license, they must get that FRN from the FCC Data Base, the ARRL Call Sign Data Base, or the QRZ.com call sign data base. The fee for processing of examinations is $15.00. For further details, contact the TARC VE Team Liaison, Steve Phillips, phone (412) 638-6069 or by email to sphillips3@gmail.com. Please try to bring correct change.

VE Session 2

Prior to the start of the actual exams, all candidates are given copies of the Candidate Sign-In Sheet. This form advises you what you need to provide for the exam and instructions in filling out the NCVEC Quick-Form 605. Virtually every session has somebody who doesn’t have a copy of their current license or similar omission.

Last year the FCC decided that all previously licensed persons could receive credit for expired licenses, regardless of how long ago the license expired. Expired License Credit gives the details on how this works.

In February 2015 the FCC stopped sending out paper licenses to new licensees and to those who upgrade their current license. Paper License attempts to explain what happens after an exam session in both cases and how to get a copy of the new license from the FCC’s ULS pages.
